Study of a man gazing down

1840–80
Not on view
Richmond's pen and ink drawing may represent his friend Samuel Palmer's cousin, John Giles (1810-1880). The artist was a prolific and successful portraitist, and is known to have painted that subject reading in a work now in a private collection.
