Harlem Bridge, Now Being Erected Across the Harlem River, at the Terminus of the Third Avenue, New York
A view of the 468-foot bridge, the first to be built on iron piers in North America. Serving vechicles, the central span could pivot on the columned support to allow large boats to pass and the structture was replaced in 1898. Here we see the recently completed bridge spanning the river with two sailboats and a small motor launch in the foreground. Another sailboat appears just beyond the bridge.
