Shri Raga: Folio from a ragamala series (Garland of Musical Modes)

mid-17th century
Not on view
Here the ruler is seen playing a rudra vina, accompanied by two musicians. This rare representation of ruler as performer appears in paintings from the Bundi and Kota courts. The work also references the fall harvest festivals, a time for relaxing and celebration. The complex architectural setting and the jewel-like treatment of flowering tree are typical of Bundi painting.
