Fan leaf adorned with botanical designs

Publisher Sarah Ashton British
1792
Not on view
Scientific instruction is the intent of this fan design. A range of leaf types, each carefully identified, are arrayed along the upper and lower borders, with looping vines adorning the ends. The interior space displays blooming flowers, together with a variety of floral reproductive mechanisms. A printed and numbered guide, on a second sheet affixed to the back of this one, could have been consulted by the user once the papers were mounted as a fan.
