Hollar here created his own etching of an engraving by Marcantonio Raimondi after a painting by Titian. The sitter is described in the engraved text as a Tuscan poet. He lived in Rome and Venice, became known for his satires criticizing powerful men. A significant influence on sixteenth-century Italian art and politics, he ruthlessly using blackmail to achieve wealth.
