Christ
Kongo artists carefully studied European devotional artifacts and stylized certain features in their own interpretations. In this figure, cast to be attached to a wooden cross, the length of the arms has been given dramatic emphasis and attention has been devoted to the head and wrapper. Deeply incised parallel lines define the beard, moustache, and braided hair.
