Astral Lamp
The solar lamp, of which this is an example, had a specially constructed cap on the wick which would feed more oxygen to the flame. The lamp was therefore able to burn a variety of oils without smoke or smell. The patent mark on the screw that adjusts the wick was probably for an improved wick casting, since the lamp form had been introduced in the 1840s.
