Marble portrait of a man

mid–3rd century CE
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 169
The plump, grim-faced man looks up and slightly to the right. His features and hairstyle are similar to those of the emperor Balbinus, who ruled for only ninety-nine days in the year A.D. 238.
