Side chair
The design is based on one of several "ribband-back chairs" in the first edition of Thomas Chippendale's influential book, The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director of 1754. The preparatory drawing for this plate, which also appeared in the editions of 1755 and 1762, is in the Drawings Department at The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
