Compote

1860–80
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 774
The oval bowl of this compote is pressed in the "ribbon" pattern. A similar compote was published in a Bakewell, Pears and Company catalogue that though undated, is believed to come from the 1860s. Although dolphin stems had been an enduring form in American pressed glass since the 1830s, the frosted glass of this stem supports a late 1860s through 1870s date.
