1735–45
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 774
According to tradition, this coffeepot formed part of the spoils of war when, on September 6th, 1781, the British forces under Benedict Arnold captured New London, Connecticut. The coffeepot was carried to England by a young baronet, and remained in his family until heavy death taxes forced them to sell it.
