Pyx

mid-16th century
Not on view
This pyx, used to hold the wafer of the Eucharist, is inscribed in Latin: "This is the body of our Lord Jesus Christ." The twisted gadroons around the foot and cover demonstrate the persistence of late medieval traditions well into the sixteenth century.
