Side Chair

1740–60
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 774
The high, narrow back and simple pad feet of this chair and its mate, 25.115.6, coded numbers "III" and "II" respectively from a set of at least six, typify Philadelphia Queen Anne chairs of an early date. The splat design is a decorative variant of the fiddle-back pattern, seen also on 25.115.36, is relatively uncommon on this style of chair.
