Evening ensemble

Department Store Henri Bendel
ca. 1940
Not on view
The well thought out construction of this evening ensemble can be seen in the beautiful use of fabric pattern. Placed so that the motifs follow and emphasize the curving lines of the garment, the dress is imbued with a dynamic sense of movement. Henri Bendel founded the eponymous store in New York City in 1895.
