Window
This window epitomizes Daniel Cottier's Aesthetic style in stained glass. Hallmarks of this style include the allegorical female figure garbed in a loose-fitting Hellenistic gown, the subtle palette in yellows and greens, and the rectangular shaped quarry panes with conventionalized floral designs. Cottier trained in Glasgow and worked in London before setting up a shop in New York in 1872 where he produced and marketed art furniture and upholstery, stained glass, and other decorative arts. This window, representing "spring," is one of a series of allegorical designs of the four seasons by the multitalented Cottier.
