Yewell painted St. Mark's Cathedral in Venice several times around 1870. He described this picture in 1890 as one of his "best and most carefully painted studies of St. Mark's Church, Venice." This may be the painting shown by Yewell in 1872 at the Paris Salon or at the National Academy of Design in New York in 1879 and 1880.
