Moonlight
The dark tonality and soft chiaroscuro are typical of the artist's early Barbizon-influenced landscapes. Unlike the Barbizon painters he admired, however, Tryon painted from memory rather than nature. The locale depicted is probably the countryside around his summer home in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
