Athlete and Dancer
Davies probably painted this picture after his first trip to Europe in 1895. It was exhibited in 1897 at his one-man show at Macbeth Gallery in New York. The approach seems to be influenced by French painters such as Adolphe Monticelli or the American painter, Albert Pinkham Ryder.
